Music is a vital part of our worship at Messiah because it is such a powerful and intimate response to God’s grace and love in our lives.
On most Sundays throughout the year, the 10:15 service is a choral Eucharist that incorporates service music, hymns, and choir anthems. Most of Messiah’s music is taken from the Hymnal 1982, but we also use selections from other sources, including Lift Every Voice and Sing and Now the Feast & Celebration.
Messiah also features a wonderful volunteer choir, which rehearses at noon on Sunday mornings with Mr. R. David Huggins, organist and choir directo."
Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join the choir and we are also looking for people to participate in our small hand bell choir. If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please contact the church and we will happily put you in touch with Mr. Huggins.
The Church of the Messiah features a Casavant Frere Limitee pipe organ that was installed in 1956 at a total cost of $31,540 – quite a sum of money in those days. After some modifications over subsequent years, the organ underwent a total renovation in 2014, which was overseen by Columbia Organ Works of Columbia, PA. Those who play our organ commonly refer to it as “a magnificent instrument.”
